Today, was an amazing day! I was finally able to see Christopher!! So, when I woke up I got all ready and waited for LeAnn to come and pick me up. I went outside to sit on a bench and it was so crazy! There were hundreds of birds. It seriously sounded like I was in the Amazon or something! I have never heard or seen so many birds at the same time.
I know there aren't many birds on this wire, but the field below them was full of birds. It was like a sea of black.
I was also smart enough to have my camera as I went across the foot bridge and so I was able to snap a picture of the welcome sign. Pretty cool.
The first time I got to see Chris was at the Airman's Run! It was so awesome! I'm so glad that I was able to find him and he was right in the front. Not only was he in the front of his TRS he was also the second group to run by and so I got to see him right at the very beginning!
This first group is just the guys with flags. Chris is actually behind the group in blue.
There he is! He is so handsome! I'll admit it, I totally started to cry when I first saw him. I was so excited and he was so handsome!! It was really neat to watch all of the trainees run by and sing their chants.
Off they go around the corner. The cool thing was that once all of the flights got around the corner everyone watching could run across to the other side to see them run by again. As soon as the gators passed by I full out sprinted to get to a good spot to see Chris run by again and get another picture.
He was so cute too! He totally saw LeAnn and I and when he did he got the biggest smile on his face! I'm so happy that he saw us. It was just so great!!
Every family has signs and so I went ahead and made Chris one. It was perfect!! Even though he didn't notice it! ha. He was more focused on our faces I guess.
After the Airman's Run we went into this auditorium and did a little briefing over being on a base and what the airman were all aloud to do. So funny some of the rules that they have for the airman. Such as... They can't walk and talk on the phone. They can't walk and chew gum. They can't hold hands with their significant others...i.e. their wife. They have lots of rules for them, but it is all things to help them be professional and honestly, I really agree with them, except the holding hands one. :-/ Oh well.
After the briefing everyone went outside and sat in bleachers around this big cement pad. The pad is where they did the coin ceremony. First they did a MTI graduation, where the leaders all got their hats.
We were all seated like an hour before the coin ceremony started and from where we were sitting we could see all of the flights line up.
The guys in street clothes were actually zero weekers. Not sure what they were doing, but it looked intense. I was happy that I was sitting in the bleachers and not one of them.
Once they started marching in I started to take pictures only once I saw Chris! He is in the front second one in from the right as you are looking at it.
This is when he received his Airman's Coin from the instructor!
So after they all got their coins the families were all able to come down and tap them out. I was so ready. I had my bag around my shoulders and as soon as they said it was ok I was up and out. I was at the top of the bleachers and I'm pretty sure I was the first one down. I didn't look back to see, but I'm pretty sure. So I tapped Chris on his shoulder because I came from behind, so he couldn't see me, and then I was in his arms! It was so amazing and perfect and it felt so safe and right to be back in his arms!! What can I say, I just love him!!
So, kinda funny, during the coin ceremony it wasn't too hot, but all of the airmen were standing at attention in the sun and a couple of them passed out. The MTIs were on top of it though and they just quickly grabbed them and pulled them aside to get water under the tent.
Chris's Airman's Coin
I was so happy to see him!! He is just so handsome in his uniform!
He was seriously so happy to be able to eat something other than the cafeteria food. He said that everything was sugar free and low fat. They only had turkey bacon, turkey burgers and it was always whole wheat bread. He was really happy to finally eat a greasy piece of pizza.
We even went to this BBQ place on base and it was sooo good!! I was actually really impressed with just how good it was. Their BBQ sauce was tasty.
When it came time to say goodbye for the night we had to say our goodbyes before we dropped him off. He was the only one that was aloud to get out of the car. It was a really great day and I'm so glad that we were able to spend so much time together!!
